Abstract:
Provides bathymetric depth contours in feet and area of those contour intervals for New Hampshire lakes surveyed by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services since 2000 and New Hampshire Fish and Game.
Purpose:
This dataset was created to calculate lake volume for lake trophic classification and to provide lake stake holders with a bathymetric map. USE THIS DATA AT YOUR OWN RISK

The dataset provides a rough estimate of a lake's depth contours and SHOULD NOT be used for navigational purposes. Reference NHDES as the source of the data is required in any published use of the data. User is required to read metadata completely before using the data. The information provided in this coverage is a subset of spatial databases developed by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES). Development of these databases is an ongoing project; they may not contain all existing and potential sites, stations, or threats. NHDES is not responsible for the use or interpretation of this information, or for any inaccuracies in the site names, tax map and lot information, or locations. All information is subject to verification. These data are to be used for planning purposes only; distribution is discouraged.

The points were plotted over USGS topographic quads and reviewed for positional accuracy as well as thoroughness of coverage for the water body being mapped.

Process_Step:
The data was gathered using a GARMIN GPSMAP 168 sounder using North American Datum (NAD) State Plane 83. Waypoints collected were downloaded using Garmin MapSource software and converted to text. The points were imported and projected to NAD State Plane using ArcGIS. Using Spatial Analyst and 3-D Analyst in ArcGIS, the points were converted to a TIN. The TIN was used to create a raster that was used to create contours for each lake.

Data submitted by New Hampshire Fish and Game was assigned the appropriate AUIDs and incorporated into the rest of the bathymetry. Data that overlapped with existing bathymetry was not used.
