This data set contains crowd-sourced broadband speed test data received by the NH Broadband Mapping &
Planning Program (NHBMPP), a program managed by GRANIT, Earth Systems Research Center, UNH. The speed
test is posted at http://iwantbroadbandnh.org/
The NHBMPP has been using the Ookla tool (http://www.ookla.com) to test broadband access speed and latency
since 2010. Users are invited to take the test, and are asked to provide their street address so that the
data may be geocoded. Users may access the tool multiple times, but the data is post-processed to derive a
single record representing the maximum up/downstream speeds at each location.
The data recorded is used to verify broadband coverage data the NHBMPP receives from broadband providers
in NH, and to better understand the broadband landscape in the state. As the data are crowd-sourced, users
should note that there is an uneven pattern of responses across the state.
These data are being collected to support the NHBMPP's ongoing efforts to map and verify broadband availability
in New Hampshire. They can be used to examine actual upload/download speeds at selected locations throughout
the state.
Additional broadband availability data sets may be requested from contact@iwantbroadbandnh.org

The critical attributes of this data are the download/upload speeds, which are measured electronically via
the Ookla speed test tool. Addresses are initially entered by users of the speed test, and may be modified during the
geocoding process described below.

Logical consistency is assumed via the use of the tool.
The data set includes one record for each unique speed test location.

OSPEEDTEST
The original speed test data as submitted by users
The OSPEEDTEST data is geocoded against TIGER 2010 to derive a standardized address and location for each point.
As each iteration of data is processed, a number of records - typically as high as 25% - do not successfully
geocode against the TIGER data. This is may be because of incomplete addresses entered by speed test users,
or because of the inaccuracies in TIGER data source. Once the records are geocoded, the successfully matched
records are further processed to remove duplicates, retaining the record that indicates the highest down/up
speed for a given location. Finally, attributes that might be considered sensitive or private, including
the address associated with the speed test, are eliminated from each record prior to distribution.
