GRANIT Metadata for NHBMPP Speed Test Data Set

Title: NHBMPP Speed Test Data Set
Time Period of Content: 2010 - 2/1/2016 Initial Publication Date: 12/31/2014
Originator: Earth Systems Research Center, University of New Hampshire
Abstract:
This data set contains crowd-sourced broadband speed test data received by the NH Broadband Mapping & Planning Program (NHBMPP), a program managed by GRANIT, Earth Systems Research Center, UNH. The speed test is posted at http://iwantbroadbandnh.org/ The NHBMPP has been using the Ookla tool (http://www.ookla.com) to test broadband access speed and latency since 2010. Users are invited to take the test, and are asked to provide their street address so that the data may be geocoded. Users may access the tool multiple times, but the data is post-processed to derive a single record representing the maximum up/downstream speeds at each location. The data recorded is used to verify broadband coverage data the NHBMPP receives from broadband providers in NH, and to better understand the broadband landscape in the state. As the data are crowd-sourced, users should note that there is an uneven pattern of responses across the state.
