Planning Gateway: Metrics for Comprehensive Plans

Lead Agency:
Regional Planning Commissions in New Hampshire

Primary Contact:
Fay Rubin

Start Date - End Date
02/2012 - 12/2014

Description:
The Planning Metrics Gateway was produced through a collaboration of the nine regional planning commissions (RPCs) in New Hampshire and NH GRANIT under the Granite State Future (GSF) project. The intention was to establish a set of planning metrics that could be employed consistently across the nine individual regional plans and were of common benefit to local, regional and state master plans. By establishing common metrics and methodologies, data can be compared across plans, regions, and neighboring communities.

The New Hampshire RPCs arrived at a general consensus as to what constitutes the minimum set of meaningful planning metrics and how they should be calculated. That effort produced a detailed methodology document that provides metadata for the GIS web based application and associated data products. The nine regions worked collaboratively to tabulate each of the identified metrics. All metrics were reported in a series of Excel files and in some instances as GIS data products. The Nashua Regional Planning Commission took receipt of the data products, created map symbology for all metrics, and coordinated setup of the Planning Metrics Gateway GIS dataviewer with NH GRANIT.
